Beware of tides ....

When you go on an island we often forget the problem of the tides.

You can spend days chasing the sea!

I encountered this problem in the Seychelles and have no car, we were always looking for the sea!

Indeed, this is the problem mentioned in a forum:

"I leave with a friend in the Seychelles in mid-October for 1 week.
3 days Mahé, Praslin and 3 days probably one day the dam.
As against this there has anything on the tides ... But nothing really
Is that a person could clearly explain when to bathe (high tide low?). We we want to see beautiful fish.
How to tell if the tide is low or high? And schedules?
We are lost!
Thank you very much for your help "

It's true that it is better for a hotel with swimming pool!

At low tide the fish are very close to the edge, but there is not enough water to swim.At high tide predators (great white, tiger shark ...) arrive for example the Seychelles beaches are prohibited and monitored by armed guards.

Okay, seriously, I only saw Anse Source d'Argent, where you can not swim at low tide (but I have not done all the Seychelles). When the sea is rough I guess the tide is calmer for snorkeling.

The Seychelles semi diurnal tides are the difference between high and low tides 2 is 12:25, so now the sea is at 12 o'clock tomorrow it will be 50 to 12 h after tomorrow at 13h 40, for the open sea at 12 h low water is 18 h 12

Explanation:

The grid of the tides is quite simple once you become a fisherman ....

Example in our area, just consider that when the number indicates more than 1.4 meters
the sea is high (= narrow beaches photos of beaches are less spectacular)

you can do anything in any case, access to beaches is not a problem at high tide or low

tidal influence rarely affects tourists, but rather information given to local fishermen and immersed centers.

Tip:

For information, there are approximately every 6 hours. Or two high tides and two low tides per 24 hours!
In fact there are also in the Mediterranean, but the tidal range is less than 50cm against more than 6m in Northern Brittany.

So if you stay less than 6 hours on the island you should know the joy of seeing the water come and go over the hour.

By cons, it is necessary to know the departure time of the tide and for this you just call a hotel on the beach where you will stay to ask the tidal coefficient. Most hotels have an email address.

Tricks

Pas besoin de serviette...

There are no translations available.
